Sitting at 4-2 with a old division rival heading to town in the Toronto Huskies, the Red Dragons are looking to make a statement.
Despite having 4 victories, we still feel like we have not seen everything that this team has to offer especially on the offensive side of the ball. Going into the season off an electric preseason we would have liked to seen more from Savoy and the passing game as they are sitting last in the AFC only putting up 951 yards in the air and cant seem to get playmakers like McIntosh, Kid, and McClure involved in the gameplan. The lack of a passing game has also hindered their ability to put up points. The Red Dragons sit last in the AFC as well on points per game and only have 8 total TDs in the season.
The bright spot for the Red Dragons offense on this young season has been their rushing attack. Led by slashing superstar CJ Bobo, the combo of 2nd year power back Roberto Ninadino III, change of pace vet Russell Fender and the explosive running ability of Savoy the Red dragons are first in rushing yards through week 6 with 877 yards on the ground.
The saving grace for the Red Dragons has been the bend but don't break defensive approach they have taken this year. Last season the Red Dragons struggled with red zone defense which resulted in giving up many TDs late on key games which kept them out of the playoffs. With all 11 starters returning the emphasis in the offseason was tackling, not giving up the big play and being able to hunker down when their backs were against the wall. The work in the off season has shown as they have only given up 81 points and went toe to toe with the The Goat Dre Crowell and the undefeated Celtic Tigers (the only TD scored came on an amazing play by Matt Naanee who took a 5 yard slant running through defenders for 90 yards) coming up short 21-14.
The leader and captain of this Red Wall Defense, OLB Charles Raymond is having a great year with 52 tackles and 5 sacks. Key stars are playing like confident like the stars they are in SS. Stone, CBs. Celestin and Henry but it has been the play of maybe some surprising guys like DE. Barry Ashmore and DT. CJ Corp who have combined for 9 sacks and 2nd year players like CB. Victor Serwanga out of Virginia who is 3rd on the team in tackles with 48 and Bobby Boucher who after a successful rookie year at SS backing up Stone has made the move to play alongside fellow MLB. Williamson. Boucher always finds himself to be around the ball and it shows as he is first on the team in tackles with 57 and has 2 fumble recoveries.
In a tight division race the road will not be easy but this week is key for the Red Dragons to show up at home against the Huskies (who are looking up at the Brooklyn Bulls in the AFC North) While everyone in the West has there hands full as well with the River Hogs welcoming the Bisons to town, Voyagers travelling to London to take on the Bulldogs and the Pioneers will attempt to knock the Bulls from the ranks of the undefeated.
